Sky News and ABC24 would have you believing that a massive swing against the Labor party is underway at present in NSW. Supposedly an exit poll is showing a collapse in the Labor vote, sufficient to sweep the Gillard government from power and install Tony Abbott as our next Prime Minister. God Help us all.
Updates to be posted as things develop.
Right now, I’m still calling the most likely event to be Gillard forming government, possibly with the help of independents and the Greens, who look set to pick up Melbourne. Over to you guys for now!

Well the sausages were selling steadily at our local primary school today. If there was a huge swing on then they would have sold out before I got there at 12:30. They are still selling. To me that seams like the status quo and a return of Maxine McKew in Bennelong. Also the pamphet handlers were not locals but shipped in from elsewhere.
Good to hear Algernon! SMS Exit poll is out 51-49 to Labor:
Labor on 38.5 per cent, the Coalition on 43 per cent and the Greens on 12 per cent
That doesn’t look like carnage to me JJ. That looks like a narrow win to Labor for mine and perhaps Labor holding on in some of the marginals.
Oh I feel for you, mad Max has been such a let down hasn’t she, can you survive another term with her? I guess it’s true about the party faithfull from each side, they vote red or blue, they don’t care who the candidate is.
The thing I like about commentators outside Bennelong is that the can pass judgement without knowing anything about the seat. They listen to the crap spewed forth from many who know jack shit about life here. Last election I could tell you 12 months before that Howard was going to lose his seat and people outside the seat laughed at me, those inside nodded with me in agreement. For 33 years Howard held the seat and did nothing in the seat.
Maxine McKew did more for Bennelong in six months than Howard did in 33 years. She is an outstanding community based local member. You go and ask any school, sports club or community group.
Alexander doesn’t even live in the electorate did nothing until 6 weeks ago turns up to NIMBY groups and thinks that is enough. I could be wrong but there is no mood for change in Bennelong and the sausage test at the local school seems to bear that out.
I hope your right Algernon because I think we are going to have to leave the country if that corrupt idiot gets into power. I can not believe that he is as close as he is to winning by rights he should be nowhere near a win. I doubt I could survive another lot of Howard Years. I am sure if more people had read this paper and learned a lot more about Mr Abbott it would have been a landslide victory to Julia Gillard. I have only just discovered the Daily Bludge and it is refreshing to read something that is not Murdoch controled. Trouble is how do we get rid of him out of our lives for good. Anyway we just have to wait and see what happens but I do not have a lot of Faith in Australian People, Most of them would not know they are being dictated to by the media and one man.
My wife and I are in the Bennelong electorate. We voted for Maxine. I didn’t even know John Alexander was running until a week or two ago. Thankfully there weren’t any rabid followers of any of the parties annoying the shit out of people in line. I did notice that the guys handing out Liberal Party how to vote cards had removed some of the ALP posters. Bit disappointing, though not unexpected I guess.
Well, you have to live there, Lucky for me I don’t. . . . .my freinds who do though say the exact opposite to you, they say she breezes into community groups and events , gets her photo taken for the local press and is gone again, they say her high profile got her selected ahead of a couple of really good long serving members of the party and they were disapointed when told she must be preselected over others.
I, agree though, personally I know “jack Shit” about Mad Max except what I read in the press and see on TV, and if what I see is the best she’s got, I stand by my comments, and I still feel sorry for you if she gets up.
After the last election she turned up to one of my childrens speech days. Everyone fell of their chairs, it was the first time in 33 years that the local federal member had appeared. She has done so each year since. Given in Bennelong we are not used to having Liberal federal members doing anything in the seat she was a breath of fresh air.
With Alexander we can expect him to treat it like Howard did, as a personal fiefdom. He has said he has no intention of moving into the seat, he was parachuted in front of long standing locals in a sham preselection. He’ll be useless and rarely seen.
Interview on TV, John Alexander says he will be moving in ASAP, just waiting for renovations to be completed at his current residence so he can get it sold.
But have it your way.
And I still feel sorry for your last 2 and a bit years with Mad Max,
He has said that he will not move because Lindfield convenient for his children at school and universtity. He has no intention of moving. He can talk as much shit as he likes tonight because he is just feeding the pidgeons. I feel quite proud to have had Maxine as my local member. Alexander will be a return to what we had before which was nothing.
I’m sure you’ll do your best to make sure John feels welcome in your electorate anyway despite your preference for Max, and the people who matter have now spoken, they didn’t agree with you.
I do feel your pain,
It looks like the media were right at the last election then, unbelievably, because they said people did not vote for Mad Max, they voted against Johnny Howard, So in reality the seat has gone back to it’s former flavour. That should have been expected.
Yes they have. And he’ll be useless, the Liberals generally are here.
What bullshit drunk guy, Howard bled votes in consecutive elections from 1991. He was openly hated in the electorate by 2007. Even the local press (murdoch owned) pointed out every first for Howard in the four months leading up until the last election. He even turned up to “open” a local festival four hours after it was opened by the mayor. The festival wasn’t insignificant it draws about 70000 people. Howard did sweet FA in his 33 years in Bennelong, he treated the place as a personal fielfdom. Tennis boy will be no different.
It’s obvious from your other posts and your demeanor here that you have an attitude and are certainly not capable of rational discourse, and that you have intimate knowledge of only one side of the arguement. And I concede, . . . the news we get must be completely wrong.
Mad max was a dudd, just like Kevin “o” Lemon, and the people have rejected her in the same manner Gillard disposed of the useless speed bump between her and becoming PM.
Max has had a history of poor performances in national TV interviews like Q&A etc, she’s been rude, insulting and failed to listen and I guess that’s the Labor way. Infuriating to you, but nevertheless it’s the view of the people and as many swipes as you want to take at me for simply agreeing with the majority, it won’t alter the fact that she has been dumped.
Have a nice day.
Where did the media say “media were right at the last election then, unbelievably, because they said people did not vote for Mad Max, they voted against Johnny Howard”. I don’t live where you do Drunk Guy, I live in Bennelong and have for a number of years, so I speak about what I know which is the Local politics. I don’t like you pretend to know what is going on locally in other seats and observe what from what is known in broad terms by commentators.
Now the beauty of living where I do is that state wise the seat goes with the government and federally it has gone from being blue ribbon to a marginal, its been a marginal since 2001. We’ve had some great liberal state members here community based and approachable the same for the Labor members Maxine McKew was a good ground based local member. What is a shock is that she has been replaced by someone who was parachuted into the seat and has no intention of moving here because of his kids, funnily enough I don’t have an issue with that as his son I think is in year 11 or 12. What I have an issue with is that he will be like John Howard he’ll never be here. If that translates as attitude well so be it. buy comments like “Max has had a history of poor performances in national TV interviews like Q&A etc, she’s been rude, insulting and failed to listen and I guess that’s the Labor way.” and “Mad max was a dudd, just like Kevin “o” Lemon” I find somewhat insulting from someone who knows little more than what the media is feeding them.
The beauty of where we live is that the people decide who gets in and who doesn’t and they did that yeasterday.
ha ha, funny stuff, . . . .Mckew has been a presence herself in the media, are you saying that for all those years she was faking it? And as for Rudd, he was in Canberra around two years as PM he was right here for the rest of his carreer as a Public servant and a politician, yep guess I wouldn’t know too much about them compared to you then.
I’m so sorry for you, i don’t know how you’ll survive in an electorate where liberal candidates go from being “totally useless, they generally are here” to being “great Liberal State members”
I’m so so so sorry for you, . . . now can you stop?
I think I said state members Drunk guy not federal but lets not be too belegerent about it. I like my local members to be good community based local members I don’t care what colour they are. Gernerally at a state level they are, that comes from being in marginal seats. Federally with the exception of McKew they are not. However yesterday, the people have chosen Alexander.
Perhaps you could take the plank out of you own eye drunk guy before you try to remove the speck from mine.
I’m guessing you thought the bucket McKew tipped on Labor’s campaign was justified then?
And yeh, I quoted what you said, but really if having one of Australia’s great tennis legends is so bad , you could always move, and thanks for the plank, I’m renovating, it’ll come in useful.
I like where I live, I suppose I’ll have to wait until the next election.
I always was interested in this subject and still am, thanks for putting up.
It’s a legitimate great posting and that i really enjoyed it a lot. I would like to offer you a 5 Start because of this positing. Keep going…
